In his Newsletter from John Howell today (Feb 17) he writes:
In recent months I have been contacted about the proposed Oxford-Cambridge Expressway. As I said during the election, I fully expect the Government shortly to formally announce that the project has been cancelled. This is in part due to representations that I have made to the Secretary of State over time. The Oxford-Cambridge Arc project came with an ambition – not a target – to try to build 1,000,000 new houses along the length of the Arc. Many of these houses are already in Local Plans along the Arc’s length and the Oxfordshire portion needs to follow a similar route. SODC, under a previous administration, said it did not wish to play ball with this. The project does, however, represent a significant taking forward of the rail link between the two universities and between a total of 10 universities in total.
